The Savage Kick is a literary magazine, but it isn't Reader's Digest or any of the "we accept anything" online drivel you see knocking around. We only accept a few stories per issue, and the results are something distinctive... We wouldn't do it otherwise.
Please, if you want to submit, read our submissions guidelines carefully... We don't want half-assed stuff, we don't want musings or ruminations or anything that doesn't make the reader sit up and take notice. Misery, joy, psychosis, hope, isolation, disgust... If it's a brutally honest feeling or story that you feel you have to share, then it will normally translate into something we'll like.
Much of The Savage Kick is shocking to some, but the intent is not simply to shock. The magazine is simply about truths passionately told, articulated in such a way they can be understood with relative ease. We only print stories that do not hide behind vague descriptions and Shakespearean excesses.
If you're appalled by anything in the download section then it's a damn good indication The Savage Kick isn't for you. If you're intrigued... and if you're into Dan Fante, John Fante, Charles Bukowski, L-F Celine, Jim Goad or Jim Thompson ... then you're in the right place.
The Savage Kick is now released yearly and is available from here and Ebay.
News:
Savage Kick #5 is now ready to order! It's 232 pages long... more than double the size of previous issues... This has given us scope to include longer stories from Steve Hussy and Jeffrey Bacon, as well as interviews and stories from Ivan Brunetti (Schizo), Seymour Shubin (Anyone's My Name) and Joe. R. Lansdale (Mucho Mojo).
SK#5 is professionally printed, and also features a Jack Kirby inspired cover by Richard Watts.
Right now, SK#2, #3, #4, and #5 are all IN STOCK. SK#1 has sold out, folks.
