The Savage Kick encourages new writers but please understand it only accepts three or four stories per quarterly issue, and these may well be by established authors.
SK#1 and SK#2 are now complete. All submissions will relate to SK#3. Please accept that if we refuse your work it is not a personal insult. You are simply competing against some excellent writers.
We will not change any of your work should it be accepted, as we only choose to publish the finest work. We do pay for work that makes the magazine... check the payment details lower in the page.
Savage Kick accepts submissions from new and established authors and we PAY
We currently only accept articles and short stories between 1000-6000 words, with only minor flexibility. You may submit more than one story at a time. Please do not submit any poetry at present.
The Savage Kick only accepts entirely completed final drafts. Please spell check and typo check your work thoroughly.

Please send:
Works dealing with any passionately held emotions and/or alternative viewpoints. These may well entail drink, sex, violence, bad language and any activity outside of the mainstream. Sleazy tales are very much encouraged and form the basis of The Savage Kick.
Real-life stories are preferred, unless work is distinctively extreme within the crime genre.
We recommend that you have read The Savage Kick before you submit. Ideal for fans of Dan Fante John Fante Charles Bukowski
Do not send:
Mainstream fiction or Oprah-style fiction. Internet/chat language or teen issues. Any genre fiction including horror, fantasy, sci-fi, western, erotica, etc. And please... no excessive Shakespearean language, surrealism or overworked irony.

Stories:
Short stories and novel excerpts must be under 6000 words. We will not read works over 6000 words - sorry! Please send a two to three line biography with your submission.

Articles:
We publish articles and interviews in relation to the writers featured in the reading list. Any article or interview should generally be under 3,000 words.

Rights:
Please inform us at once if the piece is accepted elsewhere. Previously published pieces (reprints) are acceptable only if you inform us of the fact when you submit. You, the author, retain all rights except First Electronic and First Print. The Savage Kick is a print magazine, but we may request that your work be available on the downloads section of the website.

Accepted files:
We prefer .doc files(MS Word), .lwp files (Lotus Word Pro), or .rtf files (rich text). Notepad .txt files are also acceptable. Mac users please submit in the body of an email - we only have a pc at this end! No ZIP, SIT, JPG, GIF, PDF, EXE or Wordperfect files please.

Reading Periods:
We will respond to all submissions within TWO WEEKS without fail. We will respond personally to your submissions but please do not be offended if the reply is brief. We are simply busy sometimes.

Payment:
Stories: £20 (in UK) or $35 (International) for each accepted story.
Articles: £15 (in UK) or $25 (International) for each accepted article.

We will pay within two weeks of publication. Upon acceptance, advance payment may be requested and considered.
We prefer to pay via Paypal. If you do not have a Paypal account, we will pay via cheque in pounds sterling or via Bidpay for International writers (a cheque in your currency will be sent to you). Please understand there may be some reduction in your fee due to Bidpay's fees.

E-mails submissions are now closed. As before, the problem remains... too many submittors have zero knowledge or understanding of Savage Kick... If you didn't get a reply to your submission, please read the updates page in future... e-mail submissions have been closed for a long time. We'll open e-mail subs again when we feel we won't be bombarded with people who've never read SK or Hating Olivia.
Helps if you drink I guess... A nice bit of absinthe or bourbon... but not essential
Submissions via snail mail:
Please send you story in easy-to-read printed text (10-14pt). Should you be accepted into The Savage Kick we prefer that you have an electronic version available to transmit. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope and/or e-mail address for reply.

Upon Acceptance:
You will receive an e-mail informing you that your piece has been accepted. By submitting your work, you explicitly grant authority for The Savage Kick to publish your piece in the entire print run of the said issue of The Savage Kick. You also explicitly grant authority to publish your work on the The Savage Kick website for two to three months. Should the issue be reprinted at a later date, you will be informed of any additional payments.
